The Atapuerca Foundation's highest governing body is its Board of Trustees, which meets at least twice a year. HRH Queen Sofía is the Honorary Chair of the Board. The Chair of the Board is elected once every five years from amongst the Board Members with voting rights. The Deputy Chairs of the Board are the three Life Trustees, Atapuerca Project Joint Managers Juan Luis Arsuaga, José María Bermúdez de Castro and Eudald Carbonell.
The Foundation’s Board of Trustees is primarily comprised of private institutions. Public institutions are also on the Board, some without voting rights.
