The University of Burgos has two research groups working on human evolution, prehistory and the Atapuerca project. The Human Evolution Laboratory (LEH) is headed by Dr. José Miguel Carretero, with specialists in palaeontology, biological anthropology and historic heritage. This Centre is linked to the Complutense University-Carlos III Health Institute Centre for Human Evolution and Behaviour. The Prehistory Department, headed by Prof. Carlos Díez, includes specialists in disciplines ranging from zooarchaeology, lithic technology and ceramics, settlement patterns, experimental archaeology and taxonomy to historiography.
